Johnstown Land Owner May Lose Land Through Eminent Domain
Eminent Domain - A legal strategy that allows a federal or local government to seize private property for public use
Land owner in the Town of Johnstown may lose their property to the Town through Eminent Domain
On Monday May 13, 2019, the Board of Supervisors authorized the I.D.A. to initiate an eminent domain procedure law action to legally take ~158 acres from a Johnstown land owner as a part of the "Fulton County Vision 2026 Development Strategy". The property is located in the "Hales Mills Area" and is opposed by the City of Johnstown Supervisor, City of Gloversville Supervisor, & the Town of Bleecker Supervisor.
Politicians are looking to "address the public need for new housing and public recreational facilities to generate sales tax and improve the property tax base in the community."
